“Get Artistic“
One of the most enjoyable projects at Carpinteria Beautiful is the semi-annual Bus Bench Painting. Originated in 1992, this innovative activity provides an opportunity for the community’s youth to “get artistic“ and to participate in a visible way.
There are approximately 20 benches located at various bus stops throughout the city.
MTD, the bus company that owns them, helps out by transporting the benches to and from the work area at the Carpinteria Valley Arts Council, on Linden Avenue, where they are sanded down and primed. We then invite local youth groups to get creative and add their colorful designs.
Over the years the themes have included beach and ocean, mountains and landscape and flowers in bloom.
Whatever the design, the kids have fun, the benches add a colorful touch for you to enjoy and our local bus riders are left sitting pretty.
