This fun project, begun in 1992, has had many participants down the years as the benches have been painted and repainted many times over. Most recently, the torch (paint brush) has been handed off to Muralism’s Ernie Merlan, Kit Brown & Greg Perea. Themselves accomplished artists, the trio invited community volunteers to join the fun, and over several months managed to give a beautiful fresh design to every one of Carpinteria’s benches.
The themes include flowers in bloom, landscapes, the beach, whimsy and even a leopard. When all is said and done, the goal is to leave our local bus riders sitting pretty.
